Arts Festivals & Events

We support arts festivals and events through our Arts Act Grants (funded by Kerry County Council), and we provide mentoring to festival organisers (co-funded by Kerry County Council & The Arts Council).

Illuminate will take place on Saturday 2nd March 2024 at the Island of Geese, Tralee to mark World Mental Health Day. It is a free outdoor arts event that will celebrate art, unlock creativity and promote wellbeing in youths. Activities are programmed throughout the day beginning at 1pm and ending at approximately 5pm.

Illuminate Programme

Illuminate is the second in a series of five free public arts events happening throughout the country (in Laois, Roscommon, Cork City, Kerry and Tipperary) launched to promote Planning for Outdoor Performances (POP) across Ireland. The POP partnership initiative is funded by the Arts Council’s Invitation to Collaboration Scheme with additional local authority support. The five arts offices within these local authorities made a successful funding application, with Roscommon County Council as lead partner, to the Art Council in 2022. Regular meetings took place throughout 2023 along with a training programme delivered for artists and event organisers in partnership with the National Resource Organisations; ISACS, Poetry Ireland, Music Network and Theatre Forum. Management services have been provided by Promenade, who help artists and communities to create incredible new arts experiences in Ireland’s public places and unusual spaces.

In May 2021, the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin, launched the Local Live Performance Programming Scheme. The scheme, disseminated through the Local Authorities, was a response to the Covid-19 pandemic, as it aimed to provide employment opportunities for professional performers and stage technicians and support the production of live performances, thereby helping to underpin the recovery of the commercial live performance sector. In the four rounds of the scheme, there was over 250 performances and events in Kerry and over 400 Kerry performers and stage technicians were supported by the scheme.
