Barbara Hopkins Reen
Biography
Our first world is that of home, a place in which resides our past, present and future. Home shelters, protects and allows us to daydream; we wear it like cloth, our memories and identities woven into a third skin. As a visual artist, my creative practice is strongly rooted in memory and is primarily concerned with an exploration of identitiy, both singular and collective. Influenced by childhood summers spent on the Cork and Kerry coastlines and with a particular interest in texture and surface, the work is processed through the media of print, textile, photography and installation.
If I were to name the chief benefit of the house, I should say: the house shelters day-dreaming, the house protects the dreamer, the house allows one to dream in peace – Gaston Bachelard
